Actually disconnecting

Tromsø is in the Arctic Circle. In June it gets 24 hours of sun. I went to run the Midnight Sun Marathon — midnight, daylight, mountains. The perfect setting to disconnect.
It took my head 4 days to notice.
Work was still there. So were the problems. I was in one of the most incredible places I’ve ever seen and I was thinking about emails, about my to-do list, about everything I’d left half-done. Instagram doesn’t help — you see what others post about the trip and end up living the social media version instead of the real one.
In the end it happened. No dramatic moment. I stopped checking. I stopped planning. I just ran, ate, and slept with sunlight coming through the windows.
It wasn’t a transformation. I came back the same person. But I got 5 days without thinking about work — and it turns out that’s a lot harder than it sounds.
When was the last time you really stopped — without feeling guilty about it?
